Prisoners at "The Ripples" internment camp, near Fredericton, NB
Group portrait of internees at Camp Fredericton in New Brunswick. The camp was also known as Camp Ripples. During World War II Italian Canadian internees were sent to Camp Ripples from Camp Petawawa. Italian Canadian internee Gino Tiezzi is seated in the front row, second from left. The standard internee jacket with the red circle on the back can be seen resting on his knee. Also visible in the left foreground is a small pedestal holding a sign that reads, "46." It is unclear how photographs of the internees emerged from the internment camps, as cameras were not permitted in the camps, however this sign suggests that this may be an official portrait taken by the governement.
